Job Description

This opportunity is available to UOW Malaysia undergraduate students only

As a global gaming company, we’ve helped millions to fight their way through fearsome mobs in Minecraft Dungeons, battle each other and the environment in Rust: Console Edition and most recently worked with Bethesda Game Studios to craft new adventures for Vault Dwellers around the world in Fallout 76.

Most recently, we worked with Rockstar Games to bring the beloved western experience Red Dead Redemption and its horror companion Undead Nightmare together for the first time on the Nintendo Switch and modern PlayStation systems.

We’re delighted to offer a 3 month internship within our Code department where you’ll receive a meaningful and hands-on experience alongside direct exposure to an active AAA game development cycle.

As part of our paid internship programme, you’ll receive an allowance of MYR2,000 per month and be based alongside the team at our state of the art studio in Mid City Valley.

We’re on the hunt for a talented, enthusiastic and ambitious student who has gone beyond the requirements of their course and with this in mind, we’re happy to look at examples of your own projects so feel free to include them with your online application.

This role requires you to be skilled, not necessarily highly experienced. Either way expectations are high given our reputation in the industry.

We kindly ask all applicants to submit a portfolio to support their application. We’re afraid applications without an accompanying portfolio will not be considered.

Please note, the closing date for applications is Sunday 29th October.

Would you enjoy

  • Helping to create beautiful games
  • Being part of an amazing team working on multiple AAA titles
  • Being trusted to work independently and proactively to the highest standards
  • Working with experienced teams in the games industry

What you’ll be doing

Our game developer placements involve working on real game code: you’ll be working with current and next generation consoles as well as desktop platforms. You’ll also help to develop our in-house tools and support the overall development process.

You’ll be working on the same projects as our experienced developers, and will work directly with them, being mentored along the way. You will gain valuable experience in the whole games development cycle, including bug tracking and working with a world-class QA team

What we’re looking for

  • Good knowledge of Unity and C#
  • Enthusiasm for programming, technologies and methods and a desire to keep up to date
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively

Skills considered a bonus

  • Excellent maths skills
  • Experience with 3D graphics
  • Experience in profiling and optimisation techniques
  • Knowledge of C++ and Unreal
  • An interest in games

As part of your application, you’ll need to include the following:

  • Include some examples of your code. Ideally this should be via a GitHub link and highlight which part of the code you’d like us to look at (not the entire codebase!)
  • Give us some details about the code; e.g. was it a set piece of work or for your own project? Does it include any template code or is it all your own work? If the code is collaborative then make it clear which areas are your own
  • We’d like to see what sort of projects you have worked on. Include descriptions of the projects and details about your direct contributions. We’ll not have enough time to download and play your game so add a video if possible. A video is the best way for us to assess your project
  • Don’t forget to let us know the title of the course you're studying, and the start and end dates. We’d like to know something about the subjects you have studied in your course
  • Include information about any game jams, competitions or commercial games you have had involvement with

Qualifications

  • All relevant qualifications considered

What to expect

We’re pretty sure we’re the best place to work, period.

Some of our benefits include:

  • An internship allowance of MYR2,000 per month
  • Start your day any time between 8:00am and 10:00am
  • Annual leave + gazetted public holidays
  • One to one support to help you build a professional portfolio
  • State of the art office facilities
  • Constantly improving tools and workflow so you can focus on creativity
  • Fast decision-making to allow you to thrive
  • Quarterly free activities via our Bus Tours programme. Bring your family along f
