Job Description

This opportunity is available to UOW Malaysia undergraduate students only

As a global gaming company, we’ve helped millions to fight their way through fearsome mobs in Minecraft Dungeons, battle each other and the environment in Rust: Console Edition and most recently worked with Bethesda Game Studios to craft new adventures for Vault Dwellers around the world in Fallout 76.

Most recently, we worked with Rockstar Games to bring the beloved western experience Red Dead Redemption and its horror companion Undead Nightmare together for the first time on the Nintendo Switch and modern PlayStation systems.

We’re delighted to offer a 3 month internship within our Art department where you’ll receive a meaningful and hands-on experience alongside direct exposure to an active AAA game development cycle.

As part of our paid internship programme, you’ll receive an allowance of MYR2,000 per month and be based alongside the team at our state of the art studio in Mid City Valley.

We’re on the hunt for a talented, enthusiastic and ambitious student who's gone beyond the requirements of their course and with this in mind, we’re happy to look at examples of your own projects so feel free to include them with your online application.

This role requires you to be skilled, not necessarily highly experienced. Either way expectations are high given our reputation in the industry.

In addition to being skilled, we place great emphasis on integrity, working hard and team solidarity.

We kindly ask all applicants to submit a portfolio to support their application. We’re afraid applications without an accompanying portfolio will not be considered.

Please note, the closing date for applications is Sunday 29th October.

What you’ll be doing

  • Model and texture realistic or stylistic modular, hard-surface and organic props for a diverse set of environments using industry standard art tools
  • Create materials and textures using physically-based shaders for use on architecture and organic models
  • Work with our concept artists to bring to life their vision
  • Adhere to the aesthetic and technical standards set by the Art Leads
  • Assist with optimisation and debugging to fix the issues raised by testers

What we’re looking for

  • Strong and inspiring portfolio of good-quality and creative Concept Art or 3D Art
  • Basic knowledge of game development, art creation pipelines and workflows
  • Ability to receive feedback and adapt to the visual direction
  • Good presentation and communication skills
  • Good understanding of art and design fundamentals and skills, including drawing, anatomy, composition, perspective, light, colour, functional design
  • An understanding of world-building, contextual narrative and storytelling
  • Ability to analyse and deconstruct visual style and direction
  • Solid traditional art skills
  • Able to work in multiple artistic styles that can range from props to characters
  • Good level of aesthetic ability, judgement and eye for detail
  • Good knowledge of Photoshop

As part of your application, you’ll need to ensure your portfolio considers the following:

  • Whatever the art - characters, environments, props, guns and/or concepts - they need to show detail, good artistic quality and process. Say what software is used and show process breakdowns i.e. how the work has been put together
  • Only put your best work in there, work that's completed to show off your skills. Quality over quantity is the way to go
  • Always make sure your portfolio is attached and the link is working. Use something simple to show off your work. ArtStation is easily accessible and is a good way to quickly show off your work
  • The studio will review lots of applicants for this Internship opportunity so If portfolios are hard to track down, work might be missed and you may miss out on an interview
