What We Need

500 Startups is looking for a versatile Investments Data Analyst who can support data analysis processes for our global funds. This will include gathering, reviewing and understanding our investment agreements to ultimately populate our database(s) of portfolio information to ensure that we are able to report our funds’ financial performance accurately and in a timely manner. You will report to the CFO. This position will be based in Kuala Lumpur and will be a hybrid of remote and in-office as conditions permit.

This individual will need to be a self-starter, able to work both independently and meticulously; being able to catch minute errors, research amp; correct missing data, and find new ways to streamline and input data into our platforms.

This is a new, global role and candidates will have a rare opportunity to gain international experience as this role will collaborate closely with team members and supervisors based all over the globe but primarily in both Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and San Francisco, California. You must be comfortable working with time zone differences as you may also need to take calls at peculiar hours to accommodate these time zone differences.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Research, retrieve, and backfill missing investment, portfolio, demographic, and legal data
  • Monitor internal investment deal workflows to identify potential portfolio valuation impact or transactions to record
  • Advise and monitor interdepartmental data contacts to ensure proper data input (identify and recommend new ways to streamline data input)
  • Perform analysis of data and trends to proactively deliver insights about operational performance and drive improvements
  • Design and implement reporting dashboards and the associated data pipeline to deliver insights and enhance the workflows of internal teams
  • Conduct research on various business and data collection processes to uncover bottlenecks and suggest improvements. Pioneer ways to instrument our processes to easily identify inefficiencies

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Second Upper Class Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, operations research, data science, mathematics, engineering, or another field with quantitative roots and demands from a reputable university
  • 1 - 3 years’ experience in an accounting, management consulting, or data function in a multinational company, or professional firm
  • Meticulous self-starter, able to work independently, and is results driven
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated experience in cross-functional collaboration across multiple stakeholders and must also be able to work with confidential material in a discreet manner
  • Strong Excel proficiency and experience working with databases. SQL skills preferred
  • Experience finding, cleaning, and manipulating data to build data sets
  • Adaptable and willing to work in a dynamic, quickly changing, and sometimes ambiguous environment
