WorldFish seeks to recruit a Research Analyst to work with a team of researchers in analysing the impacts of COVID-19 on fish value chains, contributing to research on dissemination and scaling of innovations, and analysis of household and enterprise survey data, including analysis of consumption, profitability, and productivity.
The successful candidate will be responsible to:
- Conduct data analysis, statistical analysis, and econometric analysis.
- Create tables and graphs with results from statistical analysis.
- Conduct literature reviews and synthesis.
- Assist in preparation of working papers, research reports and briefs, and journal articles.
- Assist with development of research instruments and analytical tools (e.g., digital questionnaire design).
- Assist with field implementation of survey activities (training survey enumerators and data quality checking, etc.).
- Interact with collaborators and project partners.
- Help develop and coordinate technical workshops.
- Assist in preparing large datasets for public access meeting WorldFish Open Access requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
This job might be for you if you have the below skills and qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, Agribusiness, Statistics, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
- At least two years’ experience working as a data analyst in a reputable research organization or other reputable organization.
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating survey data collection.
- Skilled in programming in STATA, R or SPSS, for cleaning, anonymizing and managing datasets.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative in performing in-depth statistical analysis and reporting the results with only limited guidance.
- Demonstrated experience in effective interaction and coordination with collaborators and project partners.
- Demonstrated strong writing skills and analytical mind.
- Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English.
- Demonstrated ability to program surveys in ODK-based tools (e.g. KoBo toolbox or SurveyCTO).
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Knowledge on data visualization.
- Able to multitask, work within deadlines and with minimum supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and interpersonal skills.
- Track record of written publications.

This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position with salary circa MYR 5,100 per month. WorldFish offers a competitive remuneration package inclusive of comprehensive benefits including (but not limited to) paid annual leave, insurance coverage for staff, and pension/provident fund contribution.
Time Frame and Location
The position will be based in Penang, Malaysia. Interviews are expected to be held in virtually in March2021. Only shortlisted candidate will be notified and expected to attend the virtual interview. The successful candidate should be available to commence as soon as possible for a fixed term contract up until 31 December 2021, with the possibility of contract renewal depending on performance and funding situation.
