Across multiple platforms including digital, print, video and live events we’re there to provide the discerning NME reader with affective content that entertains just as much as it informs. NME Asia is looking for English-language writers based in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam to join our freelance news team. Writers can expect to cover entertainment news about music, film, TV and more from the region and beyond.

The ideal candidate is resourceful and versatile, pays attention to detail and accuracy, familiar with the music and entertainment industries in their home country, and curious about those elsewhere in the region.

News writers must be able to work shifts on weekdays. This is a part-time position pegged to day rates, with an additional incentive structure.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently write and report news, producing clean, accurate and compelling stories on entertainment (music, film, TV and more) in Asia and beyond
• Sub-edit news stories
• Scan and pitch news stories to the editor
• Format and publish stories for the web on NME’s content management system

Requirements

• Based in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand or Vietnam
• Experience with news writing for a publication (preferably digital)
• Excellent research, writing, reporting and editing skills
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
• Knowledge and familiarity with the music and entertainment industries in their home country and elsewhere in the region
• Ability to meet hard deadlines a must
• Familiarity with WordPress or other content management system a bonus
• Bilingualism and translation experience a bonus
